Our Journey to Different Art Centre

Today, June 24, 2023, at 6:00 a.m., eight of us and our optional teacher, Dr. Jayapraveen J., set out to visit the renowned Museum of Magic – Magic Planet and Different Art Centre (DAC). Our practicum for B.Ed. Curriculum Course EDU 07—Perspectives of Learning and Teaching—included the trip. Our tour was designed to help us better appreciate the value of inclusive education and how to engage with children who have different types of learning requirements. Understanding the unique characteristics and learning requirements of exceptional learners, observing inclusive teaching practices and tailored lesson plans, comprehending the partnership between educators and parents, and witnessing the use of assistive technology are some of the goals of the visit.

The Different Art Centre, the first art centre in the world dedicated to serving children with disabilities, aims to empower and educate children with special needs and expand the focus of training from magic to other art forms, including music, dance, drama, filmmaking, painting, and proficiency with various musical instruments, all blended with a magical touch.

Our programmes began at 9.30 am after we arrived at DAC at 8.15 am. There are now 300 students enrolled in DAC who range in age from 14 to 24. They suffer from a variety of disabilities, including mental retardation, visual impairment, learning disabilities, locomotor disabilities, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, and hearing impairment.

We went to see the unique kids perform in shows like:
